The UK government has announced that it will be changing the rules for student visas from January 2024. One of the most significant changes is that international students will no longer be able to bring their partners or children to the UK on their student visas, unless they are studying a postgraduate research course.

This change is being made to "prevent people from using student visas as a backdoor to get to the UK to work". It also says that the changes will help to "protect public services".
🇬🇧 Which type of student can bring their partner?
Only international students who are studying a postgraduate research course (e.g., research-based PhDs and research-based master's programmes) will be able to bring their partners to the UK on their student visas from January 2024.
Students who are studying other types of postgraduate courses, such as taught master's programmes or MBAs, will not be able to bring their partners.
International students who are studying undergraduate courses will also not be able to bring their partners, regardless of whether the course is taught or research-based.
